Too polite for their own good!
November 24, 2008Vancouver has this great public transportation system. A chain of busses and sky trains is beautifully orchestrated to provide people with the best service in the country. But nothing is perfect and this system has it problems, it’s riders. Seriosly, people here are too polite for the transit.
You might know that it is a good thing to let women, children and elderly to sit down when there are no more seats left. Of course that is good but no need to take it to the extreme! There is always a sit vacancy around even when the subway is full. People stand around and push each other in this tiny space in the doors while there would be plenty available in the corners.
Are the too polite? Are they trying to show their respect for elderly by keeping empty seats for them? Well, no. That cant be the case because when there are too many people there is no chance an elderly can make ti down to the empty seat. Maybe they are just too lazy – they don’t want to sit down because they’d have to get up? Hm… no, that’s not the case. Every morning hundreds of people line up far ahead of time for the sea bus, for what seems to be the sole purpose of getting a seat of their choice. Maybe it is a lack of common sense? Maybe people just don’t get it?
Whatever it is, I won’t be complaining because chances are high, I will always find a seat.
