Sea Bus

November 22, 2008

I want to give a shout-out to the Sea Bus, the 12 minute ride that takes me every day across to downtown Vancouver. With the capacity of 400 people this baby comes every 15 minutes, so sharp one time that one can set clocks by its timing.

Ferry from one piece of land to another is not a new concept, but somehow around here it feels like one. Being on the sea bus every morning wakes me up, cheers me up, gets me ready for a new days. It is also very amusing – every morning I get to watch hundreds of people, observe their behavior and character.

Why I originally thought of talking about sea bus was because on different days I leave at different times, sometimes fifteen minutes apart, sometimes close to an hour. What are the chances of meeting somebody you know from a 10 am bus on a 11am bus, you’d ask? Well, my poor statistics stills developed partly because of my ignorance to the subject and partly because of ass hole professors who don’t speak english or give a shit about teaching their students, I cannot quickly come up with a mathematical answer to your questions. However, in real life, turns out the chances are quiet big. In a couple of month I’ve noticed that quite often people who come to the sea bus on schedule, tend to be also late on the same schedule. Of course sometimes one might miss the bus and be late, but I am not just talking about 15 minutes late, I am talking hour late. Really, what are the chances that two people decided to sleep in on the same day…
