Yesterday in the afternoon my friend came by to drive me around and show me the area. Our first stop was the University of British Columbia (UBC). Their campus is located about 20 minute drive from “downtown” Burnaby. I gotta note that it was about 30 degrees yesterday, and the campus located on what seems like a small mountain felt like a hot plate. My dark hair was boiling after just a few minute out in the sun.
Overall, I liked the campus, but I don’t think I would be happy studying there. Everything is very new, even the old buildings are still new and just fake their age. The campus is spread all over and they even have shuttle busses, I hear, to help students get around. All this space and modern style, although very appealing, somehow kills the feeling of a university as I know it. I was honestly missing some 100-year-old buildings which have history, and traditions behind them.
When I was done taking pictures (yea, I still can’t upload them), we decided it would be cool to go to the beach. My friend has been living here for a number of years, but has never been to the “clothing optional” beach. So, it was about the time.

( you didn’t expect to see naked people, did you? )
Although it might sound fun, but the beach was not all that impressive. Since clothing is optional, you see a mix of dressed people, and people having their privates in the open. All would be great, if those were young people, but for the most part what you see are older saggy men and not-so-slim women. But, I gotta admit there was one sexy couple that I spotted. If I were them, I wouldn’t mind sleeping naked on the beach either – full body tan.
There was also this absolutely hilarious guy – he was fully dressed, but … his sausage was sticking out of the zipper. I guess maybe he has some kind of fetish, who knows.
Anyhow, besides the nakedness, the Wreck Beach is a pretty place. If you don’t stay in the main area, and instead walk along the coast, you can find very comfortable spots where rocks, trees, water and sun make it very tempting to stay. In fact, there was this one guy sleeping in a hammock with a bottle of liquor.
To conclude the evening, we stopped by a White Spot restaurant. The mean was good, but I would not recommend it. It’s a chain and it is good to have a dinner, but if you are here fore limited time, I think it would be better to find something more original.
